Jänkälä

This collection is my most personal as it bears my grandmother’s maiden name: Jänkälä. She was a tough woman living off the land and raising children in the harsh environment of Lapland. She could soften her hard edges into a soothing love, which nurtured me. This combination inspired hope that I too could be delicate and tough. 

Jänkälä is where softness meets strength. The delicate comes from 100-year-old vintage Japanese Silk flowers. The strong, from Vintage Rhodium metallic beads. Another layer of her serenity comes in the form of incredibly delicate ceramic beads from Japan from the 1970s.

This marriage of the bold and the soft is an ode to her, and to all women that manage to be nurturing and tenacious in the face of hardship.
